14 15 3 Stages of Recovery Goals 3 Stages of recovery are not a simple linear process as it may appear Every individual moves through these stages at a different pace It can be complex and emotionally difficult You might revisit the first stage at any point in the process if you need to re establish safety as you work through the trauma in Stage 2 You may have moved to the third stage which is Reconnection Goals 01 What is a general goal that you desire to reach as you work through the 12 Steps to Freedom and fi nd that you more to process you to go back to the Rememberance and Mourning Stage The first task of recovery is to establish safety This task takes precedence over all others for no other 01 Establishment of Safety therapeutic work can possibly succeed if safety has not been adequately secured Establishing safety begins by focusing on control of the body and gradually moves outward toward control of the environment Goals 02 What is a personal goal that you desire to reach as you work through the 12 Steps to Freedom Trauma resolves only when we develop a new mental schema for understanding what has happened Patience 02 Rememberance Mourning is important during this stage It is naming the trauma that may give you a sense of power which was taken away from you You can take that power back now The goal of this stage of recovery is to begin to heal from your trauma Old beliefs that gave meaning to your life have now been challenged Now is a time for new understanding In this stage you will likely become more focused on the present 03 Goals 03 What is a external goal that you desire to reach as you work through the 12 Steps to Freedom the future not feel so controlled by the past Letting go Reconnection forgiving yourself even if you had no control over the event is possible at this time Your focus is now on issues of identity intimacy Under stress your trauma symptoms may recur However with the strategies you have learned to take care of yourself stay within your Window of Tolerance will help you tremendously during these times By Freedom Ministries www joinfreedomministries com
